WASHINGTON, Nov. 20, 2014 - The Senate has confirmed Jon Holladay as USDA's chief financial officer and Lisa Afua Serwah Mensah as the department's under secretary for rural development."
Holladay is currently USDA's deputy chief financial officer, a position he's held since 2008, and has held various jobs with the department since the early 1990s. Mensah most recently served as the executive director of the Aspen Institute Initiative on Financial Security. Mensah, whose father emigrated to the U.S. from Ghana, grew up in Beaverton, Washington.
Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., said both officials will play a critical role in helping to lead the efforts to secure the future of agriculture.
“I'm proud that my colleagues in the Senate gave their support to confirm Jon Holladay as U.S. Department of Agriculture CFO and Lisa Mensah as the USDA under secretary for rural development,” Stabenow said.
“Mr. Holladay has a long-standing history of serving the USDA and the many farmers, ranchers and small businesses across the country who rely on it. It's only fitting that he's confirmed for his new role the same week as Ms. Mensah, whose experience working to strengthen rural economies will undoubtedly match the USDA's efforts to create sustainable growth for generations to come.”
Stabenow said the USDA will benefit greatly from their expertise.
