DES MOINES, IA, June 3 - Popular Iowa farm broadcaster Mark Pearson, a longtime host of the Iowa Public television show “Market to Market” and co-host of WHO-AM radio’s “The Big Show” died suddenly today at his Iowa farm in Madison County.
He frequently talked to top USDA officials, including Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, and other national leaders.
The Des Moines Register quoted Jason Barnes, Chief Deputy of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, as saying that Mr. Pearson passed away from an apparent heart attack.
Barnes said emergency responders were called at about 5:30 p.m. to Pearson’s residence in rural Madison County, according to the Register. An air ambulance was also called to the scene, but Barnes soon received word that Pearson was dead.
Pearson had served as an assistant secretary of the Iowa Department of Agricultrue and had also served as an officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Details are not yet available on funeral arrangements.
