WASHINGTON, July 30, 2012- USDA delivered its crop progress report this afternoon, with the expected poor conditions for corn and soybeans maintained from last week.

In the nation’s 18 highest corn producing states, 48 percent of the crop in rated “poor” or “very poor,” which is similar to last week’s report at 45 percent but drastically higher than last year at this time, when only 14 percent of the crop fell in those categories. 

The trend is similar for soybeans. In the 18 highest soybean producing states, the USDA Crop Progress report indicated that 29 percent of the crop is rated “good” or “excellent,” slightly lower than last week and significantly lower than last year. At this time last year, 60 percent of soybean crop rated “good” or “excellent.” 

This week’s report also indicated the majority of range and pasture conditions in 48 states is considered “poor” or “very poor” at 57 percent. 17 percent of the range and pasture land is considered “good” or “excellent,” compared to 41 percent at this time last year.
