USDA promises action on swine line speeds ahead of Nov. 30 deadline

The pork industry is awaiting action by USDA ahead of Nov. 30 on whether processing plants can move to the faster line speeds that a few facilities have been allowed to use in a time-limited trial.

This week's Open Mic guest is Donnell Rehagen, CEO of Clean Fuels Alliance America. Members of the groups spent last week in Washington reporting the positive impact the EPA's higher RVO numbers are already having in their industry. Later in the week, USDA finalized the Regenerative Feedstocks rule and provided an updated version of the USDA Feedstock Carbon Intensity Calculator. Rehagen says the industry is poised for growth and hopes future RVO guidance can provide room for continued expansion of the renewable fuels sector.

The Senate Agriculture Committee released a farm bill discussion draft this week that includes many important provisions for rural America, but doesn't address California's Proposition 12, year-round E15 or a delay of state SNAP cost-share requirements enacted in last year's One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Senate Ag Committee Chair John Boozman joins Newsmakers to discuss the bill and its path forward.

Plus, Tara Smith with Torrey Advisory Group and Anne MacMillan with Invariant discuss the broader farm bill politics at play during the midterm election year and the White House's supplemental spending request to address the cost of the war in Iran, which includes $11.1 billion in additional farm aid and support for year-round sales of E15.
