The Environmental Protection Agency needs to examine wastewater discharges from meat and poultry plants to determine whether it should impose new requirements on them, environmental groups said Tuesday.
Three-quarters of meat processing plants that discharge wastewater directly into waterways exceeded their permit limits for nitrogen, fecal bacteria, or other pollutants at least once from January 2016 to June 2018, according to a new report from the Environmental Integrity Project.
The Environmental Protection Agency has another two months to complete emissions guidance for animal feeding operations (AFOs), courtesy of an order today from the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. EPA now has until Jan. 22 to finalize its guidance for AFOs.
