The Agriculture Department lost 18% of its staff to voluntary resignations, retirements and for other reasons during the first five months of the Trump administration, with some agencies losing up to a third or more of their employees, according to a report by USDA’s inspector general. California lost the most workers, more than even D.C.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said Tuesday the department will unveil its reorganization plan next week and it won’t be as “drastic” as many have feared. Speaking to members of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting, Rollins confirmed that about 15,000 USDA employees had taken buyouts.
