WASHINGTON, Oct. 11, 2017 - The state of New York has asked the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to identify and lease at least four new wind energy areas. The state submitted supporting information on the locations it recommended for off-shore wind development, with each area capable of producing a minimum of 800 megawatts (MW). The developments would help New York meet a commitment of 2,400 MW of offshore wind energy by 2030. More than 16,000 square miles of area were rigorously examined. The resulting Area for Consideration covers approximately 10 percent of the original offshore study area.
