The House Committee on Natural Resources today is scheduled to review HR 1778, which would require congressional approval of any future moratorium on coal leases on federal lands. Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., sponsored the legislation, which she says will provide certainty and economic growth. “Obama-era energy policies targeted our fossil fuel industry, killing jobs and devastating communities across the West,” Cheney said in a press release. “In Wyoming, this was not just a war on coal, this was a direct attack on the livelihoods of our people.” The bill would require a joint resolution within 30 legislative days after the proposed moratorium is received by Congress.
