WASHINGTON, Oct. 13- The four principal agriculture committee leaders, Sens. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Pat Roberts (R-Kans.) and Reps. Frank Lucas (R-Okla.) and Collin Peterson (D-Minn.), have reached an agreement on $23 billion in Farm Bill savings to suggest to the Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction, potentially allowing the agriculture committees to complete drafting the next Farm Bill by the end of October.

Agri-Pulse has learned that the four leaders are aiming to send a bipartisan, bi-cameral letter to the Super Committee by tomorrow, which should outline their final recommendations. Members of the House and Senate agriculture committees were expected to be briefed on details of the package later this afternoon.

The process to provide agricultural budget recommendations for the 12-member “super” committee’s $1.5 trillion goal picked up speed Wednesday night. The four committee principals held an hour-long meeting, during which they reached an agreement on a maximum number.
