California almond shipments saw a 1.9% year-to-year decline in the first five months of 2025 compared to the first five months of 2024 according to the Almond Board of California. The ABC’s industry position report shows that California almond shipments currently stand at approximately 2.26 billion pounds.
This past May, 160 million pounds of California almonds were exported, which is in line with the industry’s performance at this time last year. May domestic shipments totaled 51.03 million pounds, a 22.3% decline. This is consistent with a downward trend in recent months with the domestic market recording seven consecutive months of year-over-year declines.

Year-over-year May shipments of almonds dropped 7% in the U.S., 3% in India, and 26% in China, Hong Kong and Vietnam. The EU market held steady with no change, and demand in the Middle East remains strong with a 12% increase from May 2024. Growth in this area has been primarily driven by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, but consumption is expected to slow in the summer months.
