WASHINGTON, May 10, 2013 – Agri-Pulse Communications is pleased to announce that Spencer Chase will join the company’s team of journalists here as a summer intern.

Chase is a Junior Journalism and Mass Communications major at South Dakota State University (SDSU) and is originally from a farm near Wolsey, South Dakota.

“We are really pleased to have a young broadcaster like Spencer working in Washington with us this summer, especially as the House and Senate Agriculture Committees start work on a new farm bill,” explained Sara Wyant, Agri-Pulse Editor and Publisher. “He will help us cover Capitol Hill and also develop more audio and video segments for our web site.”

Last summer, Chase worked at WNAX radio in Yankton, SD, providing coverage of agricultural news and maintaining the “Ag News” section of the station's website. He twice served as a newsroom crew intern at the National FFA convention. From 2010-2011, he served as South Dakota State FFA Treasurer. He is a student member of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting.

At SDSU, Spencer is a sportswriter for The Collegian, the independent campus newspaper, a student coach with the Jackrabbit football team and a member of FarmHouse Fraternity.

Wyant added that, while she is delighted to announce the new intern, the timing is bittersweet.

“One year ago today we lost Agri-Pulse Senior Editor and fellow farm broadcaster Stewart Doan,” Wyant noted. “But I believe Stewart would have loved to see a sharp young man and fellow FarmHouse fraternity member, like Spencer, working this beat.”
