WASHINGTON, June 9, 2014 – Agri-Pulse is pleased to announce the appointment of Spencer Chase as an associate editor.

A broadcast and news editorial journalism graduate of South Dakota State University, Chase is originally from a farm near Wolsey, South Dakota where his family raises crops and livestock. He served as a summer intern with Agri-Pulse in 2013, covering agricultural policy issues on Capitol Hill, interviewing lawmakers for the “Meet the Freshman” series and assisting with the web site and social media.

“We are really pleased to have a talented journalist and broadcaster like Spencer join us full-time in Washington,” said Sara Wyant, Agri-Pulse Editor and Publisher. “He demonstrated an impressive ability to leverage his farm background and cover a wide variety of farm policy topics last year.  He will help us continue to expand our Capitol Hill coverage and also develop more audio and video segments for our web site.”

Chase previously served as an intern at WNAX radio in Yankton, South Dakota, providing coverage of agricultural news and maintaining the “Ag News” section of the station’s website. He also served as a media and public relations intern with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the NBA D-League affiliate of the Miami HEAT. In addition, Chase twice served as a newsroom crew intern at the National FFA convention, was the South Dakota State FFA treasurer and a student member of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting.

At SDSU, Spencer was a sportswriter for The Collegian, the independent campus newspaper, a student coach with the Jackrabbit football team and a member of FarmHouse Fraternity.
