WASHINGTON, March 10, 2015 – A highly pathogenic strain of avian influenza has been discovered in separate turkey flocks in Missouri, the second and third discoveries of the virus in the Mississippi flyway.
Last week, USDA reported finding the disease on a turkey farm in Minnesota, the Agriculture Department says.
The latest confirmations of the H5N2 virus were in Jasper and Moniteau counties in Missouri.
According to the Missouri Agriculture Department, the virus is likely being carried by ducks or other migratory birds.
As in Minnesota, Missouri officials have quarantined the affected farms. The remaining birds will be killed.
