Washington, July 6 – The National Corn Growers Association, the American Coalition for Ethanol, and the Renewable Fuels Association sent a June 24 letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) encouraging him include the Consumer Fuels and Vehicle Choice Act (CHOICE Act), S. 1627, and the Green Jobs Act of 2010, S. 3231 in energy legislation.

One important component of the domestic policy response to the Deepwater Horizon spill should be further efforts to promote the domestic production and use of renewable fuels like ethanol,” read the letter.

The bipartisan Green Jobs Act, which was introduced by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Kent Conrad (D-ND) and has 10 cosponsors, intends to extend ethanol tax credits through 2015. Meanwhile, the CHOICE Act introduced last year would increase the number of flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs) and provide grants for installing blender pumps.

Enacting this legislation will enable increasing levels of ethanol use in transportation fuels without posing a burden on auto manufacturers or retain fuel distributers,” the letter said.
