WASHINGTON, July 26, 2017 - Campbell Soup Co. says it’s leaving the Grocery Manufacturers Association, asserting that the trade association no longer represents its views.

The split was fueled by differences over GMO food labeling, with GMA taking a hardline stance against GMO disclosures on food products. Campbell’s, on the other hand, came out in 2016 with a commitment to label all products containing genetically modified ingredients. “This was not a financial decision,” Campbell’s CEO Denise Morrison said of the move. “It’s a decision driven by our purpose and principles.” The company says its divorce from GMA will be finalized by the end of the year.
