WASHINGTON, August 2, 2017 - The Ukranian government has announced that its state-owned power generation company will buy American thermal coal. Pennsylvania based XCoal Energy and Resources won the contract with Centrenergo PJSC. “Partnerships like this are crucial to the path forward to achieve energy dominance,” said U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross credited President Trump’s commitment to energy with the sector’s growth. “[The] announcement will allow Ukraine to diversify its energy sources ahead of the coming winter, helping bolster a key strategic partner against regional pressures that seek to undermine U.S. interests,” Ross said. U.S. coal exports are up nearly 60 percent from January. XCoal expects coal shipments to arrive in the Ukraine in late August or early September.
