WASHINGTON, Feb. 22, 2017 - On Sonny Perdue’s first day in office as the next agriculture secretary – should he be confirmed – he will be presented with options on how to restructure USDA to include a new under secretary to deal solely with international trade, government sources say.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 8, 2017 - There is more evidence of a continued downturn in the U.S. farm economy. USDA says that net farm income is likely to decline this year by 8.7 percent to $62.3 billion. That would make this the fourth straight decline since the peak in 2013.

And his pick, Denver-based appeals court judge Neil Gorsuch, is going to be especially attractive to people who believe that regulatory agencies have overreached their legislative authority.

The Biden administration recently announced its Bioeconomy Board, creating new products and services to boost the U.S. economy and workforce and enhance our quality of life and the environment. Ellikidis says BIO’s goal is simply to advocate for the possible. She sees products that will improve agriculture productivity while at the same time lessen the industry’s environmental footprint. Ellikidis says the nation’s regulatory structure is strained to keep up with scientific advancements provided by fast-moving private industry research.
