Dozens of farming and business groups and unions are pleading with the mayors of Los Angeles and Long Beach to oppose a proposed emissions rule that they fear will limit exports and imports through two of the largest U.S. container ports.

As farmers and companies in the food and ag sector struggle to find workers, many have increasingly turned to recruiting foreign workers through visa programs, including H-2A. Demand for H-2A workers, who can take seasonal jobs on crop or livestock operations, has been skyrocketing. Meanwhile, others in the sector are trying to use smaller visa programs, such as H-2B or J-1.

Ethanol producers are looking to expand their presence abroad as more countries look to meet renewable fuel commitments.

An exclusive dialogue, presented by the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) and Agri-Pulse, will bring together industry, government and non-profit organizations to discuss solutions that can accelerate progress across the livestock value chain, including the development of the first-of-its-kind livestock carbon credit marketplace. The event, “New horizons for the agricultural carbon market,” will take place in Washington, D.C., and virtually on Sept. 13 from 9:30-12 p.m. ET.

James “Jim” Jones has been selected by the Food and Drug Administration to serve as the first deputy commissioner for human foods, giving him a chance to direct and oversee reorganization efforts at the agency.
