House Ag Committee Democrats sought to use a farm bill to advance a provision authorizing year-round use of E15, but the panel's Republicans stuck together to uphold a point of order against the biofuel amendment.

House Ag Committee Democrats told Agri-Pulse they plan to offer a farm bill amendment to allow year-round sales of E15, even though the proposal is likely to be ruled out of order. 

In the latest setback for E15, mid-sized oil refiners say a congressional plan aimed at expanding the U.S. market for corn-based ethanol would cause them to shut down. The House GOP's new Rural Domestic Energy Council has until Sunday to offer up a plan for legislation that would allow year-round, nationwide sales of higher-ethanol blends.

Republican lawmakers face a deadline to reach agreement on year-round E15 authorization this week so the deal can potentially be attached to a legislative vehicle that has a chance of reaching President Donald Trump’s desk.
