Consumer Price Index up 0.9%, fueled by rising price of gas

Gas prices increased 21.2% on a seasonally adjusted basis in March, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports. Food prices were relatively stable, with grocery prices down 0.2% and food away from home up 0.2%.

The House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee is set to roll out its fiscal 2025 spending bill as the House GOP makes another run this year at slashing domestic spending programs. The subcommittee is scheduled to vote Tuesday on the FY25 Agriculture bill, which funds USDA and FDA as well as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

The price consumers paid for groceries jumped 1.4% in February, helping to drive an overall increase in the Consumer Price Index of 7.9% over the past 12 months, the largest in 40 years, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday.
