Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) has acquired Cumberland Dairy, a family-owned processor of ultra-pasteurized dairy products based in Bridgeton, New Jersey. DFA says the acquisition aligns with the farmer-owned co-op’s plans to expand its commercial investments and ownership into extended shelf-life processing. According to DFA, Cumberland serves some of the nation’s top quick-service restaurants, convenience and grocery chains, wholesale food distributors, fine-casual restaurants, and dessert concepts to a variety of customers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Innovation Foods LLC, a juice and beverage operation founded by the former owners of Cumberland Dairy, is not included in this transaction. It will remain independent and wholly owned by the family.
