Agricultural production value in Tulare County increased by over $500 million from 2021 to 2022.

In the yearly crop and livestock report, Tulare County Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights & Measures Tom Tucker laid out the production values of specific agricultural products. He championed the total gross production value of $8.6 billion, an increase of $522 million, or 6.5%, from 2021’s value of about $8 billion.

The highest-valued commodity in the county for 2022 was milk, which was also the case in 2021. Milk had a gross value of over $2.6 billion, which represented 31% of the total crop and livestock value, and was an increase of 12% from 2021.

Oranges came in second in value, the same spot they held in 2021. Oranges had a gross value of just over $1.3B, slightly less than half the value of milk.

Vegetable and field crops both saw about 30% increases in value from the previous year, while fruit and nut commodities decreased about 10%. Tucker attributes the decrease in fruit and nut commodities to “a decrease in the value of lemons, peaches, tangerines, and walnuts.”

The overall crop report covers over 150 different commodities, noting 41 of those commodities had a 2022 gross value of $1 million or more.
