Erin Morris has been appointed to lead the Agricultural Marketing Service after Bruce Summers retires this month.

She will be responsible for agency functions including grading, auditing, and laboratory testing that help producers demonstrate the value and integrity of their commodities, operating the USDA Market News Service, and administering the Packers and Stockyards Act and the National Organic Program.

The AMS operates under the Department’s Marketing and Regulatory Programs mission area.

Morris “has earned the trust of her peers and stakeholders across the industry,” said Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins. “I’m confident that under her leadership, AMS will continue to deliver for farmers, ranchers, and American consumers.”

She has worked in leadership roles at AMS for over 25 years. Most recently, Morris was associate administrator of the agency, responsible for overseeing a range of agricultural regulatory, marketing and inspection programs conducted by AMS.

Morris succeeds Bruce Summers, who will retire at the end of May after completing a 40-year career at USDA. Prior to leading AMS, he worked in the fruit and vegetable program area of AMS.

“We are deeply grateful to Bruce Summers for his four decades of tireless service to American agriculture,” Rollins said. “His leadership has shaped AMS into a cornerstone of USDA’s mission, and his legacy will have a lasting impact on farmers, ranchers, and consumers for years to come.”

Before joining USDA, Morris worked in distribution for one of the largest foodservice distributors in the U.S. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University.
