BASF and Louis Dreyfus Co. jointly announced the sale of BASF’s food and health performance ingredients business to LDC.

The sale includes a production site in Illertissen, Germany, three application labs outside of Germany, and 300 BASF employees, who have transferred to LDC.

Originally a part of BASF’s Nutrition and Health Division, the food and health performance ingredients business produces whipping agents, emulsifiers, fat powders, plant sterol esters, conjugated linoleic acid, omega-3 oils and other product lines.

The move comes with BASF’s initiative to refocus on vital nutrition ingredients for humans and animals, while LDC hopes to use the deal to expand its reach in the plant-based ingredients market.

“We look forward to welcoming our new teams to the LDC family as we open this exciting new chapter for the Group and working together to create value for our customers around the world,” said James Zhou, LDC’s chief commercial officer and head of food and feed solutions.
