WASHINGTON, June 14, 2017 - The Food and Drug Administration says it plans to extend the compliance date for food manufacturers to comply with its final rules for its revised Nutrition Facts Label and Serving Sizes. The agency did not say when the new deadline will be, just that details of the extension will be provided later through the Federal Register. The original compliance date was July 26, 2018, with an additional year to comply for manufacturers with annual food sales of less than $10 million. FDA says it decided to extend the compliance date after considering feedback from consumer and industry groups. The Center for Science in the Public Interest criticized the decision, saying the move will “end up denying consumers critical information they need to make healthy food choices in a timely manner and will throw the food industry into disarray.”
