The price tag for a new package of farm aid appears to be growing. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., tells Agri-Pulse lawmakers have been talking about $7 billion in disaster assistance to go with the $15 billion or more being discussed in economic aid. The total cost of the package could range up to $22 billion, he said Thursday.

President Donald Trump says he’ll have an announcement of a trade agreement this morning. In a social media post Wednesday night, he said it would be a “major deal” with “a big, and highly respected country. The first of many!!!”

USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins tells senators that the department is working to rehire some staff, primarily in the Farm Service Agency, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and wildfire response offices.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins on Sunday laid out some broad details of the $10 billion in market relief for row crop producers that’s due out by March 21, asserting that the U.S. farm economy is “perhaps the worst it's been in 100 years.”

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said Friday she hopes to beat the March 21 deadline set by Congress for distributing $31 billion in economic relief and disaster aid payments. She also promised that farmers would be “made whole” for financial losses from new trade wars.
