The House finally passed a farm bill, but the Senate has yet to act. The bill cleared the chamber, 224-200, after some tense discussions among Republicans. The House stripped a pesticide labeling provision from the bill and is expected to take up a bill that would allow year-round use of E15 on May 13.

The House approves an amendment to strip language from the farm bill that would have established federal supremacy of pesticide labeling laws over state rules. The vote is a win for MAHA Republicans and Democrats who claim the provision was a giveaway to chemical companies. 

After hours of meetings and tense exchanges, the House finally began debate on the farm bill close to 11 p.m. Wednesday, with leaders aiming for a vote today.

The farm bill got off to a late start in the House on Wednesday as concern about a related ethanol bill threatened the legislation. The E15 bill is now expected to be taken up separately in two weeks. 

The House is once again scheduled to take up a controversial farm bill Wednesday night, lawmakers say.
The chamber is set to hold votes at around 9 p.m. on amendments to the bill.

The top Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee is hoping that her Senate colleagues will push for a farm bill that reflects more Democratic priorities, urging lawmakers to “hold the line” for a more bipartisan bill.

The farm bill has been teed up for a House vote with a stand-alone E15 bill in tow.

Tensions are flaring in deliberations to get a farm bill  on the House floor for a vote. The divisions and positioning around the latest farm bill all share a common thread: They’re unfolding in the middle of a high‑stakes election year.
