The California State Senate unanimously confirmed Karen Morrison as director of the Department of Pesticide Regulation. She has been with DPR since 2018, recently as chief deputy director. Earlier in her career, Morrison was a senior environmental scientist at the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) and was city commissioner for the City of West Sacramento Environment and Utilities Commission. 

The Agriculture Department announced senior appointments and promotions across the agency, including a pick for a key anti-hunger role. 

Last year, SNAP recipients were overpaid at a national average rate of 10.03% and underpaid 1.64%, according to USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service. The payment errors are not synonymous with fraud and instead reflect how accurately states, which administer SNAP benefits, determine eligibility and payment amounts.  

USDA has finalized its rule on school meal standards to include added sugar reductions, but less intense cuts on sodium.
