The House Agriculture Committee is split along partisan lines over a Democratic bill that would create a special investigator in the Agriculture Department to look into allegations of unfair practices by meat and poultry processors.
USDA is putting $75 million into 15 projects around the country that are led by private organizations or state governments and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide other environmental benefits.

Farmers in the Western Lake Erie Basin are concerned they will have to develop nutrient management plans and restrict fertilizer applications if a state panel agrees with Gov. John Kasich that watersheds in that area of the state are “in distress.”
