DENVER, Oct. 11, 2017 - The Solar Decathlon began in Denver last week with hundreds of college students from the United States and Europe competing. The Energy Department’s (DOE’s) international competition showcased projects demonstrating energy savings and affordable renewable energy products. “Students are actively addressing global energy challenges such as reliability, resiliency, and security by incorporating the use of innovative energy and water efficiency technologies into their professional projects,” said Deputy Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette. The competition, which was interrupted by snowfall on Monday, consists of 10 contests that challenge the 11 student teams to design and build full-size, solar-powered houses. The overall winner will be announced Oct. 14.
