The California Department of Food and Agriculture wants public input on its plan to develop a Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program to address supply chain challenges.

CDFA has partnered with USDA to offer grants to strengthen supply chain infrastructure for domestic food businesses and farms. Before opening the application process, CDFA is soliciting public comment to craft program priorities.

In a news release, CDFA notes how the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the cracks in the food supply chain. The Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program will address gaps in the middle of the supply chain, including processing and transportation. The program is focused specifically on human food, excluding meat and poultry, which are covered by another initiative.

The eventual grants will offer assistance for expanding food processing capacity, modernizing tracking and storage, improving worker safety, and more.

Public comment can be submitted by emailing grants@cdfa.ca.gov by Aug. 3. There will also be public listening sessions from July 25 through Aug. 3.
