The recall was initiated after Oregon and Washington agriculture department sampling found a strain of highly pathogenic avian influenza.
An FDA advisory warns pet owners who may have fed the products to cats to watch for symptoms of bird flu including fever, lethargy and difficulty breathing. No human infections have been identified from handling the pet food product, but owners are warned that people can become infected if the virus enters a person’s eyes, nose or mouth.
