The California Department of Food and Agriculture is distributing $24.8 million for greenhouse gas emission reduction projects.
Thirty projects are getting grants under the Alternative Manure Management Program and the Dairy Digester Research and Development Program. .
In total the department expects the projects will reduce emissions by nearly 122,000 metric tons annually, having the same impact as taking 28,350 cars off the road for a year.

The CDFA programs are funded through the state’s cap-and-trade investment initiative, California Climate Investments. CDFA Secretary Karen Ross said the grants will allow farmers to participate in methane reduction solutions “much sooner than when might normally be feasible,” as the state heads toward its livestock emission reduction deadline.
