Food security is improving, but future challenges remain, according to the latest Global Food Assessment released by USDA.
The report assesses food demand in 83 low- and middle-income countries and monitors each country’s ability to meet demands using local sources and production. The report by USDA's Economic Research Service compares yearly data sets and makes 10-year projections that can identify potential markets for U.S. agricultural products.

The latest report shows expected food security improvement in most of the surveyed countries in 2025 compared to 2024. This is due to an average 3.7% growth in per capita gross domestic product and a decrease in food price inflation. ERS estimates that 13.5% of the population in these countries will be food insecure, which is a 26.7% drop from 2024.
Looking ahead, ERS predicts food insecurity to continue declining, with only 6.5% of the population remaining food insecure. However, the report also warns of an increasing food gap of nearly 10 kilocalories per person and a 0.6% shortage of grain supplies in 2035.
