Texas A&M University will build a new meat science center on its main campus by 2028, the university’s Board of Regents announced.
The more than $133 million investment adds $18.76 million to the previously approved project and shifts it from a planned site at the school’s RELLIS campus to West Campus, where it will serve as the anchor of a future agriculture district.
“This is exactly where this program belongs,” said Robert Albritton, chairman of the Board of Regents. “At the center of campus, at the center of our mission, and at the center of an industry that matters to every Texan.”

Texas A&M’s meat science program dates to 1926. The new 85,600‑square‑foot center will replace the current facility, built in 1983, with updated labs, classrooms, processing space and public‑facing capabilities to support teaching, research, extension and industry engagement, the university said.
The project is funded through a mix of university system financing, AgriLife Research‑related revenue, private gifts and resources backed by the Permanent University Fund.
Among U.S. universities, Texas A&M is regarded as having the largest and most comprehensive meat facility, with other major centers at Iowa State, Penn State and the University of Idaho.
