WASHINGTON, June 7, 2017 - Thursday, June 15, 2017 is the new deadline to submit nominations for at least six open positions on the USDA Advisory Committee on Beginning Farmers and Ranchers. The Committee will work with Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Purdue, to enhance opportunities and support new farming and ranching operations.

According to USDA, the Committee will also develop and recommend an overall framework, cultivate strategies that encompass principles to leverage and maximize existing programs, and create and test new program ideas. The Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program spearheads initiatives to fund, educate, mentor, and assist beginning farmers or ranchers through grants. Membership should take into consideration the diverse groups served by the USDA, including minorities, women and disabled. Find out how to nominate someone here.
