MISSOURI, September 6, 2017 - Missouri electricity supplier Ameren is using new technology called IntelliRupters to quickly identify and isolate service issues. The smart grid upgrade was completed last week in St. Francois County as part of the utility’s effort to modernize the aging infrastructure. “Our investments in a smarter grid are all about service reliability for our customers,” said Russell Burger, director of the Southeast Missouri division of Ameren. The IntelliRupters act to sense the condition of the electric system and determine appropriate actions to reduce the number of customers affected by an outage. The smart switches enable Ameren to re-route power from another circuit.
