WASHINGTON, September 13, 2017 - The House Committee on Natural Resources will hold a markup on a number of bills this week, including HR 210. Named the Native American Energy Act, the bill is meant to facilitate the development of energy on Indian lands. HR 210 seeks to reduce federal regulations that impede tribal development by amending the Energy Policy Act of 1992 and the Tribal Forest Protection Act of 2004. The bill proposes a 30-day time limit on appraisal approval and establishes a uniform system of reference numbers and tracking systems for tribal lands’ oil and gas wells. The bill also advocates for biofuels production on Native lands.
