How a trade war could fix U.S. farmers' UCO problems

Triple-digit tariff hikes on each other’s imports, if sustained, are set to reshape U.S.-China trade – particularly for agricultural products, where price competition is fierce. As U.S. ag producers stare down the barrel of steep export losses, they’re hoping the high tariffs offer new opportunities in domestic biofuel that can at least soften the tariff blow. But much will depend on the policy signals from Washington, analysts say.

Farm Hands on the Potomac: USDA political appointments, Thatcher departs Syngenta, Kuck joins NCGA

The Agriculture Department announced a slate of new political appointments, including many names familiar to the food and agriculture community: Trey Forsyth, Kelsey Barnes, Bill Beam and Tucker Stewart, among others. 

The National Corn Growers Association hired Gretchen Kuck as an economist. John Stewart was promoted to senior adviser of government affairs at Elanco. Mark Sanborn joined the Environmental Protection Agency as a regional administrator in Boston.
