U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai told lawmakers last week she is putting Chief Agriculture Negotiator Doug McKalip in charge of working with Brazil to end its tariff on U.S. ethanol and now McKalip is preparing to go to there as U.S. tensions remain high over the barrier preventing U.S. exports.

Former FDA official says planned reorganization won’t solve issues

The infant formula crisis was a “preventable tragedy,” and the Food and Drug Administration’s proposed reorganizational changes fall short of the needed overhaul to improve FDA’s ability to prevent and respond to food safety concerns, Frank Yiannas, former FDA deputy commissioner in the Office of Food Policy and Response, detailed during a hearing before the House Oversight Committee.
