The fight for E15 is redrawing battle lines between ag and fossil fuels, with the chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee caught in the crosshairs. 

FGS Global hired Mary Nowak Armstrong as managing director. Illinois Farm Bureau delegates have voted in Philip Nelson as their new president. The American Soybean Association made promotions and new hires on the industry relations team: Kate Maher hired as director of state and industry relations, Tracy Snider  promoted to executive director of state and industry relations, and Michelle Hummel  promoted to senior director of industry and stakeholder relations. 

The International Dairy Foods Association hired Chelsie Keys as senior vice president of government relations. Seth Meyer, USDA's chief economist for nearly five years, will lead the University of Missouri’s Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute beginning Jan. 1. Luther Markwart, CEO at the American Sugarbeet Growers Association for the past 44 years, will retire at the end of 2026. 

The partial government shutdown drags into another week with no end in sight, and Senate Democrats are likely to force another vote on President Donald Trump’s tariff policy even as his administration continues discussions with China. The Senate Ag Committee will take up the Grain Standards Reauthorization Act and more.
