CropLife America has selected a Trump administration Environmental Protection Agency veteran as its new President and CEO, the organization announced today in a release.

Alexandra Dunn, who served a two-year stint as Assistant Administrator for the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention from 2019-2021, will succeed former President and CEO Chris Novak, who left the position in September 2023 after five years at the helm of the association.

“The CLA Board of Directors is excited to announce Alex Dunn as our next CEO,” said Andy Lee, chairman of the board and president and CEO, Valent North America.

“As CLA members continue to innovate to address challenges faced by growers, health officials, and consumers, Alex’s experience will provide guidance and leadership in both the policy and regulatory spaces. We look forward to working with her as she steps into this role,” Lee said in a statement.

Dunn said she was “truly honored” to be named to the position.

“CLA’s leadership, members, and staff are dedicated to sustainability, innovation, science, and environmental and human health protection. Working with them will be a privilege,” she said. “As it has been for more than 90 years, CLA will be at the center of key agricultural conversations. I cannot think of a better moment than the present to work towards agricultural solutions that benefit the public and the planet.”

In addition to her time at EPA, Dunn's career has also included time as an environmental lawyer and law professor with an extensive background in environmental issues. The New Jersey native began her career as an environment associate at Winston & Strawn. She later served as a counsel for the American Chemistry Council, general counsel for the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), executive director and general counsel of the Association of Clean Water Administrators, and executive director and general counsel of the Environmental Council of the States.

In 2018, she joined EPA as regional administrator for New England’s Region 1, a position she held before her OCSPP role.

After leaving the administration, Dunn joined the law firm of Baker Botts, where she has been a partner. According to the firm's website, Dunn has “worked with companies of all sizes — from multinational corporations to startups — and with national organizations on environmental justice and risk communication, sustainability, settlement of enforcement cases, the regulation and management of emerging contaminants, site cleanup and restoration, chemical regulation compliance, enforcement and compliance assistance, and risk communication.”

Dunn is expected to join the organization in mid-March.
