The Senate Finance Committee on Monday released its tax and Medicaid provisions for the budget reconciliation bill that Republicans are trying to reach agreement on, and they extend expiring 2017 tax cuts and expand some other provisions of the law. The provisions also extend the 45Z tax credit for clean fuels.

Farms appear to be protected from worker deportations – at least for now. But Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins is making it clear she’s still on board with President Donald Trump’s agenda of deporting illegal aliens from the U.S.

Senate Republicans are out with the agriculture provisions of their budget reconciliation bill. The farm program provisions track closely with what’s in the One Big Beautiful Bill passed by the House in May, including increases in reference prices and authorization for a voluntary base update.

Food for Peace would not be integrated into USDA under an amendment approved by the House Appropriations Committee during a markup of the fiscal 2026 spending bill.

The Senate Agriculture Committee developed a reconciliation plan similar to the House version passed last month, but with a scaled-back state cost-share for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and less restrictive work requirements for parents of school-age kids. 

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins defended her record at a wide-ranging hearing that touched on trade, personnel reductions at USDA, and cuts to nutrition programs. She argued USDA had become bloated during the Biden administration but is now "adequately staffed."
