Some senators want the administration to investigate lamb imports and their impact on U.S. producers. The sheep industry has made a similar request.

Seven GOP senators led by Montana’s Steve Daines wrote to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer telling him to ask the International Trade Commission to look into the issue.

“Foreign competitors, particularly Australia and New Zealand, have consistently taken advantage of our comparatively open market and relaxed standards to undercut producers in our states,” the letter reads.

Ag Committee members John Hoeven of North Dakota and Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi are among the signatories.
