As farmers get a new round of bad crop market news, biofuel investment has stalled due to U.S. policy uncertainty. 

The new year promises more changes in the regulatory landscape for farmers as the second Trump administration goes back to the drawing board on some of the same issues it dealt with in its first go-round.

A federal grand jury has indicted several Chinese nationals on charges related to stealing and re-selling used cooking oil across several U.S. states. The alleged theft underscores the need for stronger measures to protect waste feedstocks that have become increasingly valuable in the making of biodiesel and other lower-emitting fuels, the North American Renderers Association said. 

Could 2026 be a bust-to-boom story for U.S. biodiesel producers?

After a dramatic withdrawal of support from a key ethanol bill in October, the American Petroleum Institute is once again teaming up with ethanol stakeholders to push the Trump administration and Congress to help get the legislation over the finish line. And in a new development, the groups also are united in asking for a revamping of policy that allows small refiners to seek exemption from biofuel-blending rules. 

North Dakota landowner and farm groups got a win when a local judge ruled that a state law dealing with property rights and carbon dioxide storage is unconstitutional. The ruling is the latest in a string of legal cases in North Dakota and nearby farm states related to property rights and carbon capture and storage.
