Agriculture groups said Thursday’s Make America Healthy Again Commission report will cast doubt and confusion on pesticides, despite decades of rigorous testing. 

The Trump administration’s highly anticipated report on the potential drivers of childhood chronic diseases criticizes many aspects of the U.S. food system, but calls for more research to back up its strongest claims. 

The Trump administration will release a report today from the Make America Healthy Again Commission – with notes on how pesticides and ultraprocessed foods allegedly connect to childhood chronic diseases.

Farm groups are preparing for the worst in a report due this week from the Make America Healthy Again Commission. A source familiar with the report tells Agri-Pulse’s Rebekah Alvey that it touches on pesticide usage, although the final language is subject to change.

Farm groups are largely in the dark about what will be included in an upcoming report on chronic diseases among children, but are bracing for the worst.

Barbecue costs for Americans have reached a new high, according to the 2025 Rabobank BBQ Index. For the first time, the cost of a summer cookout will exceed the $100 threshold, with the index reporting the average cost to be $103 for a 10-person barbecue. This reflects a 4.21% increase from 2024, when the same barbecue cost $99, and a 41% increase from 2018, when the cookout was estimated to cost $73.

Low-income families that don’t participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program spend significantly less at the grocery store than households that are in the program, according to a USDA study of consumer buying habits. 

Concerned that the Make America Healthy Again Commission will blame modern agricultural practices for chronic diseases, farm groups are pushing the White House to ensure the panel's initial report is based on "sound science and evidence-based claims."
