The California Department of Pesticide Regulation is considering new pesticides to add to the state Groundwater Protection List. 

Fourteen farmers representing portions of California’s Delta and the San Joaquin Valley are joining ranks to coordinate priorities for Delta management. 

A University of California economic analysis predicts that California’s water supply deficiencies could create losses between $3.4 and $14.5 billion annually.

The Western Tree Nut Association named new officers for the board of directors. Kirk Squire, director of grower relations at Horizon Nut, was appointed as the chair of the board. Additional officers include: Jonathan Hoff as first vice chair, David Stanfield as second vice chair and Amy Sihto as secretary/treasurer. 

California State Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas named Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopezto the Coastal Commission. Alexa Bishopric joined the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Democratic staff as a professional staff member. Jimmy Emmons was named assistant chief of USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service.The Peterson Group hired former House Ag Committee Democratic staff director Anne Simmons as a policy consultant.

Farm groups are largely in the dark about what will be included in an upcoming report on chronic diseases among children, but are bracing for the worst. 

House Agriculture Committee Chair Glenn Thompson says he’s ready to start work on a stand-alone farm bill as soon as he’s done with the House budget reconciliation measure that’s being used to boost spending on key farm programs. But can he muster bipartisan support for what would be left behind by the reconciliation process?
