Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kan., hired Robert Rosado as the panel’s senior professional staff responsible for nutrition, specialty crops and organics.

Stephen Vaden is another step closer to Senate confirmation as USDA’s top lawyer.

Congratulations to Glen R. Smith who was confirmed by the Senate Tuesday as a member of the Farm Credit Administration Board. Smith owns a family farm in western Iowa that includes 2,000 acres of corn and soybeans. He also is the co-founder of Smith Land Services, a company that specializes in farm management, land appraisal and farmland brokerage services.

Former Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., has been hired by the Wilderness Society to lobby on "conservation issues relating to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge," according to records posted last week. Dorgan is a senior policy adviser for the Washington, D.C., law firm Arent Fox LLP.

Gina Sheets, a former Indiana director of agriculture under then-Governor Mike Pence, has been appointed to the new position of chief innovation officer in USDA’s Rural Development office.
