House GOP leaders overcame Republican objections to Senate provisions on SNAP, rural hospitals and other issues overnight Thursday to clear President Donald Trump’s massive spending and tax package for his signature. The bill will provide $66 billion in new spending for farm programs, the largest infusion of new money into farm programs since 2002.

House Agriculture Committee Republicans aren’t happy with some of the Senate’s changes to their SNAP reconciliation provisions. But they say other parts of the Republicans’ bill outweigh those concerns. 

Farm groups are urging the House to approve the Senate-passed budget bill and get it to President Donald Trump’s desk. Vice President JD Vance cast the deciding the vote on the legislation Tuesday after a marathon vote-a-rama. 

Republicans forced their version of the One Big Beautiful Bill through the Senate  after a dramatic, marathon vote-a-rama before Vice President JD Vance could cast the deciding tie-breaking vote shortly after noon Tuesday on the massive budget reconciliation measure.

Most states are going to get hit with a bill for SNAP benefits unless they can get their error rates down quickly. Under a provision in the Senate’s massive budget reconciliation bill only eight states would be exempt from sharing some SNAP benefit costs, based on the FY24 error rates.

The national error rate for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program fell slightly from 2023, but remained higher than pre-pandemic levels. 

Senate Republicans are still working through a few major issues as they try to pass their reconciliation bill in time to make President Donald Trump’s July 4 deadline. 

Grain inspectors need to have access to new technology, witnesses said at a House Ag subcommittee hearing on reauthorization of the U.S. Grain Standards Act. Subcommittee Chairman Austin Scott said a lapse in authorization could result in "dramatic consequences for the U.S. grain industry."

Senate Republicans are continuing their push to get the budget reconciliation bill on the floor by the weekend. But on Wednesday GOP senators were continuing to struggle over how to help rural hospitals deal with the bill’s Medicaid funding cuts.

President Donald Trump is pushing congressional Republicans to delay their July 4 vacations if that’s what it takes to get the One Big Beautiful Bill to his desk. But first, Senate Republicans must pass their own version of the budget reconciliation measure.
